February Favorites 2017

Happy Friday!

There was a point when I was blogging a few years ago that I would share a favorite of mine each Friday. It could beauty related, a piece of clothing, or a television show. Anything. Instead of posting each Friday, I thought I would post all my favorites for that month on the last Friday of each month. So here we are.

Instead of writing about everything, I made a video blog. OMG. I can't believe I'm doing this. Stepping wayyyyyy out of my comfort zone here - but I've always enjoyed others' video blogs highlighting their monthly favorites, so I'm joining in the fun!

This is my first video blog and my first time using iMovie - so don't expect too much. Like everything, I will learn and improve as I go.

What have you been loving in the month of February?

REVIEW: ProfilePRO Customized Hair Care

For 40% off a trial size at ProfilePRO use code: DT40OFF

I've never been fussy over shampoo or conditioner. I don't have a go-to brand or type of product that I use on a daily basis. I've used everything - drug store brands like Tresemme and Herbal Essence to more expensive products like Bumble and Bumble, Paul Mitchell, and Wen. I've never stuck with one brand too long and I've never been against trying new brands. So when ProfliePRO asked me to try out their customizable products, I was happy to do so!

The Product:

Basically, ProfliePRO customizes and formulates it's products for your specific hair type based on a questionnaire you fill out prior to placing an order.

You answer these questions, customize the name of your own shampoo and conditioner, and then check out. Easy-peasy!

They've put in the work and done their homework. They've analyzed different profile results and tested them on the various hair types to make sure each custom profile works! Their products are made in a manufacturing facility for cosmetics and hair products in Italy. The products are sulfate free for a gentle clean.

The Review:

My initial thought when I read about this product was awesome. Most shampoos and conditioners I've used only consider one (maybe two) characteristics of hair (re: for blondes, thickening, or smoothing). So to come across a product that's formulated for my type, texture, behavior, and scalp - all in one - was pretty impressive and definitely got me interested.

So I customized my products. My hair is wavy, frizzy, and thick. It's colored. And my scalp is between normal and dry. I chose the Jasmine scent. And done. It was being made in Italy and soon would be at my door.

First off, the signature Jasmine scent is ahhhh-stinkin'-mazin' y'all. For real. It's perfectly pleasant. Some beauty product scents are just too much. Over-bearing and sometimes even overcompensating for the product itself. I'm sure the other ProflinePRO scent options are just as great, but I totally recommend Jasmine.

It took me a couple weeks to really use the product and feel comfortable writing about it. I wash my hair 1-2 times a week, so I wanted to get in a few washes before forming any opinions. Because I don't wash my hair daily, it's important for me to have a shampoo that really cleans the scalp. I use dry shampoo daily and between that and just being out in the elements, I get a decent amount of buildup  around my roots after a few days. So shampoo is crucial for me. I don't care about the brand, it just needs to cleanse and restore my hair.

I had just a couple issues with the shampoo. Each time I washed my hair, I found myself having to use excess amounts to cover all of my hair. The website states that the shampoo does not lather due to it being sulfate-free. I've actually used a couple of non-lathering shampoos that have been great. The problem I had with the ProfliePRO was that it didn't really distribute. Once I put the shampoo in one area, it was almost impossible for me to move the product elsewhere. It felt like it just disappeared into my hair. I subsequently had to use more and more of the product to cover my entire head. I do have a lot of hair, but I just found it annoying that I had to go back to the bottle multiple times per wash.

In addition to that, as I mentioned, I need a product that washes away the buildup and grime; however, my scalp didn't feel as clean as I wanted it following a wash - which could have just been a result of having a difficult time moving the product around in my hair. So that was disappointing. In contrast to that, the shampoo is marketed as gentle and if you're someone who washes daily, it would probably be perfect for you. I need a deeper clean because of my washing schedule.

I think if you wash your hair every day or even every other day you need to try this customizable shampoo and conditioner. If you only wash a couple times a week, you may find it to be too gentle for a really good cleaning. Either way, I highly recommend everyone giving it a try!

Weekend Wear {On my Face}

Most weekends I catch up with my cleaning, to do list, and errands. I buy groceries, run to Target or Sam's, and try to squeeze in some leisurely shopping. I'm a jeans and a tee kinda gal on the weekends and I wear the makeup to match. So unless I'm going somewhere nice like out to eat or somewhere special with others, my face is easy and without any fuss.

BB Cream: I find that bb cream is perfect for the weekend (and even some work days when I'm running late). It's not full coverage, but it definitely evens everything out and gives me a bit of color. I first tried a more expensive bb cream; I fell in love (love!) with the product, but not the price. So before I splurged to buy the full size tube, I decided to try a few drug store brands. Maybelline's BB cream was the first I tried and it was all I needed. I love this formula and I haven't felt the need to try any other brands. I know a lot of other brands I love make a bb cream, but I feel like if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Concealer: When the weekend rolls around I'm not trying to be super glamorous, but I'm also not trying to scare anyone. Because the bb cream isn't full coverage, there are still a few spots that need concealing - namely under my eyes. This particular concealer is lightweight, doesn't migrate, and covers well.

Mascara: Whether I am going all out with my makeup or doing an easy, more natural look, I still want a mascara that's going to stay put and make my eyelash look fabulous. Mally is my go-to for this look. And most all other looks.

Eyelash Curler: My eyelash tend to stick straight out like they are pointing at someone if I don't curl them before and after I apply mascara. So a curler is a necessity with any and all looks.

Eye Shadow: My go-to eyeshadow isn't a particular brand or color - it's anything that's neutral with a bit of shimmer. I like the jumbo pencil style shadow because I just color it on, blend it out with a brush, and it's done. It's easy, quick, and looks great.

Blush: In staying with an easy, non-fussy look, I typically use a pretty neutral blush. Nothing too bright, but something that still gives definition and color.

And that's it. It takes about five minutes and I'm out the door.

TOP TEN: Summer Beauty Products

Summer is winding down and we are {finally} approaching fall again. Before summer is completely over, I wanted to share with you products I found myself using pretty consistently this summer.

First of all, these smell incredibly clean and fresh. Second of all, in the summer when there's a little more perspiration and you're typically outside a bit more than usual, your face can pick up extra junk. I find that giving my face a gentle wipe with these before actually washing my face really helps out.

This stuff. I've re-purchased this stuff three times already this summer. My first experience with a BB cream was through Birchbox last year. I was instantly in love. But as I ran out of the product, I realized I didn't want to spend $30 on a small tube. So I decided to try out a drug store brand BB cream. This happened to be the first one I saw, so I bought it. Much to my surprise it was equally as impressive as a product that was more than three times expensive. I know a lot of people say BB creams are just tinted moisturizers, but I beg to differ. BB cream is magic. I don't know how, but it does amazing things and I like it. I've been giving my foundation a break and wearing this cream with a bit of eye concealer and finishing powder. It's quick, easy, and great quality.

I've come to realize that stains work best with my lips; however, the thing with lip stains is that they can be extremely drying. Problem solved. Theses balm stains give me the stain I like and the moisture I need.

The smell of grapefruit is so clean and refreshing. I typically use ProActiv as my acne defense, but lately I've been incorporating this scrub. I love the smell, the foaming action, and the scrubbing beads.

Spoiler Alert. I didn't actually use this product for my spray tan, but I didn't want to mess up my collage with a picture of a Palm Beach Tanning Salon. This summer I decided to purchase a membership to get spray tans as needed. I really only needed some color twice this summer. Once when I went down to the beach and again when we had a summer pool party at our house. So was it worth it? Mheee... probably not, but I'm not a fan of excessive sun bathing or tanning beds. I'm also not a fan of blinding people with my lily white skin color, so I did what I had to do.

I could put this stuff in any beauty top ten list I make. I've been using it for over two years now. I've gone through who knows how many bottles. And I will continue to purchase it. I've tried other high end dry shampoos as well as drug store brand dry shampoos and I can never find anything comparable. In the summer, when our hair collects a bit more oil and dirt, this stuff takes care of business.  It can get me through four to five days without having to wash my hair. Some may call that gross, I call it really convenient.

I've used this every day this summer. It's my go-to product for contouring or just adding a hint of color to the face. Being in scrubs all day, I can dust a bit of this on and fool all my co-workers into thinking I'm super active and that I spend a lot of time outdoors when I'm not at work.

Maybe I'm weird, but I feel like I tend to get a bit dry during the summer. Right before bed I lather this all over my face and neck and let my skin drink it in throughout the night.

During the summer, my typical go-to nail color is some form of coral; however, this summer I have been obsessed with hot pink. This color satisfies my hot-pink cravings.

I fight a never-ending war with finding the perfect mascara. I can pay $5 or $30 for a tube and see no difference. A lot of finding the right mascara depends on matching up your eyelash type to the right mascara consistency - and right now, this is what I'm liking. It's lightweight, it's does all the separating and lifting I want, and it stays in place all day - which can be pretty annoying at the end of the day when I just want it all off. But, beggars can't be choosers.

Birchbox: March 2012

If you aren't familiar with Birchbox, it's a monthly subscriptions ($10!) and with the subscription you receive 4-5 deluxe-sized beauty, hair, skincare, or lifestyle products. A great way to try out new products without the commitment or wasted money.

This month I was fairly impressed with the items I received. Two (two!) of the items were full-sized! Below are links to each item and my little blurbs.

This was a full-sized item! It was something different that any of my lip products as it applies matte! It also tastes deliciously minty and is moisturizing!

I haven't tried this out yet, but I've heard great things about this brand and I'm excited to see how it performs! Plus, I love hair oils - makes it so silky and smooth!

This was full-sized too! And I'm so happy I received the gold flakes! I also really think the rose colored polish is pretty too!

This is currently my favorite perfume! I asked for it for Christmas and have been wearing it every day since. It's a fruity floral scent that's perfect for running to lunch or a fancy evening out. I'm so happy to have a little travel size now! (and the bottle is so fun!)

I've actually received one of these in a previous box, but I never really tried it out. I'm kind of partial to the hair ties I currently use. When I try this one out, I'll let you know what I think.

EXTRA: I also received a $10 off coupon to Modcloth!

Recent Drugstore Favorites $10 or Less

I love finding products at the drugstores that are worth speaking about; it's like winning the lottery. Well, not really, but it's an awesome feeling to know you've purchased something (usually) for less than $10 that's of great quality. Here are a few recent products I adore, use on a daily basis, and that you can snatch up at your local drugstore!

I am a stickler for putting on my Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer; however, it is unnecessary when I used these Color Tattoo shadows. They are incredible! There are a variety of colors, it's easy to apply, and it doesn't crease - and, best part, it looks the same at the end of the day as it did in the morning when you applied it! I have Bad to the Bronze, Tough as Taupe, and Pomegranate Punk.

I always go back and forth between liquid liner and eyeliner pencils. For the past several months I've been on a pencil kick because of these bad boys. They are comparable to higher-end brands - usually compared to Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On pencils. I love pursuing makeup stores and I have swatched these pencils side by side. There's no difference - they both go on smoothly and I can rub over them until my had is red, and they don't budge. The only difference is that NYX's pencils are significantly less expensive.

I love this whole line - not just because the colors stay put throughout the day, but all the pallets are gorgeous! I love the Addictive one especially. Three of the colors are matte and the taupe color has only a slight shimmer - which is great in moderation during the day. The pigmentation isn't as great as some higher-end shadows, but the colors are buildable and it's really not an issue for me. As I mentioned earlier, I always wear my eyeshadow primer, so I lay that on before applying these colors, but so far they've always lasted all day.

I'm in love. It's a lip balm in lipstick packaging and these make my lips incredibly moisturized and soft. some of them have a light sheen of color and others are just to renew that pout! I have more of these than I should admit to, so I'll stay quiet.

Do you have any recent favorites?

Fab Five Friday: Foundations

I decided to do a themed Fab Fve today. Back when I started my blog (over a year ago - I can't believe that)  I shared Favorites of mine, which usually involved beauty products. So I think I'll be incorporating some beauty favorites - blushes, eye shadows, lipsticks.

Below are the five foundations I reach for most often. There aren't certain occasions I wear one foundation or the other - it's just kind of whatever I feel like putting on that day. I go through phases of wearing each for for a couple months. I've found that these five are ones I've purchased more than once.

I find myself grabbing for the loose, mineral foundation on the weekends. It's fast, easy, and offers the perfect amount of coverage that's not too much, but just enough. I have two colors - one for winter, one for summer.

I don't typically wear drug store foundation. Not because I don't think the quality is good - I actually think drug store brands have several great products. I just hate that I can't swatch the foundation before buying. There are so many different shades, and I almost always grab the wrong one. I just can't handle not having a near-perfect match for foundation. Luckily, when I decided to try this foundation out, I grabbed the perfect color. I love this stuff, The coverage is great, application is smooth, and it lasts all day.

Of the five mentioned, this is my go-to foundation right now. It's water-based, provides just the right amount of coverage, and isn't heavy or cake-like feeling. I love this stuff.

This stuff is called One Step because it's supposed to act like your primer, concealer, foundation, and powder all in one. I ended up buy this because of a beauty guru on YouTube that raved about it. I'll admit, I never used it as all found steps - I still applied my primer, concealer, and powder. So I can't speak on its one-step capabilities, but I still think it's a great product. I don't know if it's being discontinued, but it's less than $15 on their site if you want t try it out!

I came across this foundation several years ago by walking into a Sephora, naked-faced, and just trying out different products. This happened to be the foundation I tried out and I loved it! I've bought this foundation several times since. This was the foundation I wore on my wedding day. It's smooth and applies easily - gives the right amount of coverage and it's packaging is sleek and compact. Love this stuff!

Link up below with your Fab Five!

How To: Neon and Neutral Nails

I am head over heels for the neon and neutral trend that's floating around the fashion world right now. I've failed miserably at finding neon pieces. Everywhere I go, I'm looking - but no such luck. So I've turned to my nails. I grabbed two of my favorite colors - a neon and a neutral - and got to painting.

Essie's Cute as a Button and Jazz

I first tried out a more subtle approach - one neon tip. It's simple:

1. Paint your nails your favorite neutral color.
2. Place a strip of tape over your nail leaving a small tip at the top.
3. Paint the tip, let it dry, and remove tape.
Ta-dah!

If you'd like a little more neon in the mix, go ahead and just paint the whole nail neon.

I also think a neon yellow or orange would have looked fantastic.

Birchbox: July 2011

Friends, have you heard of Birchbox? Yes, no, maybe so? Well, if not, let me tell you about it... It's basically a $10 monthly subscription service where you receive 4-5 deluxe, high-end beauty samples from a variety of brands - such as NARS, Too Faced, Stila, and Benefit (here is a list of all the brands). The box features makeup, skincare, and lifestyle product samples.

As if the generous samples aren't enough, once you use your products you can go to the website and review the products to accumulate points - points that turn into dollars that you can use to purchase any of the products you've used and loved! It's really a fabulous deal that pays for itself! The mission behind starting the company was to "help women cut through the clutter of the beauty world to find products that work for them."

So I signed up last month and I have been anxiously waiting for this first box to arrive! So, without further adieu, here is a step-by-step photo of me jumping into my first (of many) Birchbox!

This month Birchbox collaborated with Cynthia Rowley to guest-curate the box! This gorgeous sleeve was over the box - it's so pretty.

Once you open the box, you are greeted with a card that gives a bit of background on Birchbox and that month's items/events going on - like the collaboration with Cynthia Rowley. On the back side of the card is a list of all the items in your box, a brief description of each, and the full-size price of the item. Pretty convenient.

This is what my box looked like inside, once I peeled back the tissue paper. Look at those goodies!

Here is a look at my items and my card with their descriptions. An extra treat was included - a favorite of Cynthia's. It was a Kind Almond and Apricot snack bar. I haven't tried it out yet, but I hear it's delicious. So I'm going to get busy using my samples and next month, when my new Birchbox arrives, I'll share my new goodies and give you all a review of this month's items. I'm off to use all my items. Maybe even all at once!

This service is wonderful if you are really into makeup and beauty. You get to try out a variety of  brands and products without committing. If you love the item, then you can feel confident in an investment of a full-sized item and if you don't like something, you've lost nothing! It's truly win-win!

How To: Look for an Interview

Let me start out by saying that every job interview is different; what you wear and how you look during an interview highly depends on the job itself. This particular look and the following guidelines are for a job interview in healthcare. If you were interviewing for a position in a company that is more fashion-forward (e.g., PR, assistant, consultant) I believe the dress could be a bit more bold, trendy, and fashionable. However, for many jobs the interview is less about what you look like and more about what you know - that was the case here.

For this interview I wanted my resume and what I had to say to shine above everything else. This doesn't mean I threw fashion and beauty to the side, I just kept it as simple as possible.

Attire. I kept things simple, but tailored. Instead of going with a classic, three-piece suit, I incorporated three different pieces and three neutral colors. I felt as though this kept the look professional, but still modern. Instead of adding color through accessories like a necklace or bracelet I added my color through my bag.

Jewelry. The only jewelry I wore for this interview was large, pearl stud earrings (again, going simple and classic). However, I do think it would have been perfectly fine to put on a nice watch or even a simple necklace. I wanted to avoid anything that would have been too much. For example, multiple bracelets with a  watch would have looked nice, but would have made too much noise - very distracting when you're trying to sell yourself.

Bag. Instead of carrying my purse and a bag with my resume and other relevant papers, and larger carry-all bag fit the bill. The large pockets on the side were great for easy access to pens and storage for my keys and there were pockets inside to house my wallet and cell (that was off!). The large bag not only offered a bit of color to my neutral look, but also was a simple and organized way to carry everything I needed.

Makeup. If I had a detailed picture of my face you would see my makeup is light and neutral. I put a tiny bit of concealer under my eyes, dusted my face with mineral powder to even the skin tone, and added a light dusting of a pink, matte blush to give my cheeks definition and color. I did a light, neutral smokey eye (light brown on my lid and a skin-tone tan blended in my crease), a thin and short winged eyeliner to open my eyes, and a couple strokes of mascara. On my lips I, again, kept things natural by using a lipstick that was the color of my lips.

Perfume. Don't wear it. Not to an interview. What may seem like a light spray to you could be suffocating to the interviewer. Even if it's light, someone else could smell it and easily become distracted.

Hair. Since my hair is longer I decided to go with an up-do. A simple ponytail, with a small section of my hair wrapped around the holder - to give a more polished look to a simple do. I didn't want my long hair in my face or all over the place during the interview. I considered just pulling and front pieces back and going with a half-up/half-down look, but the ponytail was just easier.

Nails. I took any nail polish that was already on off. While neons and pastel nails are all over the place right now, I'm pretty sure your interviewer won't appreciate it (unless you're interviewing for a trendy company). Again, staying with the simple and non-distracting look I decided to take my pink nail polish off. If you are someone that can't go out of the house without their nails perfect and polished - that's fine. Just choose a neutral color that won't grab attention.

Teeth. If you know of your interview in advance I would recommend using a teeth-whitening system. Even just a couple days of using white strips can make a difference. Bright white teeth are more pleasant to look at and aren't as distracting as yellow teeth - at least that's how I feel. Also be sure you brush your teeth, pop in a mint, or chew a piece of gum before the interview (but make sure you spit out the gum before going in - if you're forgetful, go with the mint).

Other tips. Here are a few other grooming and preparing tips to consider.
Clean up your eyebrows by plucking outlying hairs.
Get a hair cut/trim before the interview - you don't want split ends all over the place.
An interview is not the time to try out a new hair do or a new makeup look.
Consider comfortable shoes - there may be a tour as part of the interview and if there's not, you should ask for one.
Get ready early. You never know what may come up or go wrong while getting ready (someone could stop by the house or your hair might not be cooperating).

In a nutshell these tips and guidelines are more on the basis of keeping your look clean and simple. I made sure nothing that I was wearing or anything else about my looks was distracting. Again, this interview wasn't about selling my personal style, but about selling myself, my knowledge, and my skills. Good luck on your next interview!

P.S. - I got the job!

Apothica Haul

I love reading posts and watching videos of fashion and beauty hauls. It's fun (and sometimes enlightening) to see what others are purchasing. Posting one of my own is a different story - I'm not sure how I feel about doing it, but I'm going for it anyway. Hope you all see this more of as review than a look at me post ('cause it's not).

My first order from Apothica was one that combined things I needed and things I wanted to try for the first time.* So here's the breakdowon:

1. Clarisonic Brush Head - I was given a clarisonic system for Christmas from my parents this past year and it's recommended that the head should be replaced every 3-4 months. So that's that.
2. Smashbox Foundation Primer - I'm running low on my primer. Now I usually buy the regular Photo Finish Primer, but as I was browsing I saw that this was the same thing, but with SPF and Dermaxyl Complex. So I thought I would give it a try.
3. YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch - I've seen and heard about this product for a while now - nothing but great things. Since I was using a gift card, I thought this would be the perfect time to give it a try (because, boy, it is pricey). I've only used it a couple times, so I can't say exactly how I feel about it - I never like a new product right away.
4. Korres Pomegranate Lip Butter - This stuff. Much like the YSL highlight pen, I had heard lots of lovely things about Korres lip butter. Let me tell you - it's all true! This stuff is the best lip product I've ever put on my lips. It goes on smoothly, stays on for quite some time, and makes my lips more soft then they've ever been. It also has a gorgeous tint of color. The pomegranate is a pink/coral color which I love! I will definitely be purchasing this again. And soon and I've already made quite a dent in the lip butter.
5. Voluspa Goji & Tarocco Orange candle - Anytime I go into Anthropology or Francesca's I always got straight to the Voluspa candles. They smell delicious. So I had to get one - and in a citrus scent. I love it. And they are a pretty piece to be sitting around your house.

So that's that. I'm highly satisfied with everything that I order. Do any of you use these products? I'd love to hear what others have to say about particular products.

*I purchased the majority of these items with a gift card from Apothica.

How To: Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Cleaning your makeup brushes is vital. If you aren't regularly cleaning these brushes oils, bacteria, and makeup buildup all just sit on the brushes and are transfered into your actual makeup and on your face - not good. So you want to make sure you clean the brushes once a week. I recommend Sunday nights - that way they are ready to face the week!

Since I had a few brushes that needed cleaning, I thought I would share how I do this.

Directions:
1. Get an old cup and cover the bottom with a thin layer of shampoo. Any kind is fine - you don't need a specific brush cleaning shampoo or the most expensive.

2. Place the brushes down into the cup so that the bristles get the shampoo on them. Wiggle them around a bit to make sure the shampoo is on all of the brushes.

3. Get warm water running. Quickly put the cup under the faucet so that you fill the cup up with about an inch of water (you don't want too much as water should not be above the silver piece of the brush).

4. Wiggle the brushes around to get the shampoo/water mix on all the brushes.

5. Pull one brush out at a time and move it around in a circular motion in the palm of your hand. The suds will be dirty.

6. Move your hand under the water while continuing moving brush in circular motion. Keep doing so until water runs clean of makeup and suds. You may want to alternate squeezing out the brush and rubbing it on your hand. *Also, be sure to keep brush at a downward angle so water does not go up into brush.

7. Completely wring out excess water and use your hand to shape the bristles.

8. Lay the brushes out to dry overnight - they will be completely dry and ready to use in the morning. *I like placing my brush on some sort of ledge or over the counter so that all side of the brush are able to breathe/get fresh air.

And now they are clean - free of excess oils, bacterial, and makeup.

I learned this method from a makeup artist. She used to work for MAC and stated this is how they clean their brushes in the store - cheap shampoo and all!

Daily Threads: Hello, Poncho

{top: old navy | oversized sweater: target | jeans: tj maxx | boots: steve madden}

First things first - this sweater. It's definitely not the most flattering thing in the world. In fact, it's not really flattering at all, but it's like wearing a fashionable snuggie and I'm all for it. Additionally, it's pretty much an exact dupe for this $300+ sweater. (yeah!)

Second thing - a nice story. I went to Michael's today (the craft store, not some boy) and rummaged through all their Christmas things which were 80% off (80% off!!!). I found a fabulous little tree. It was about two feet high, sat on a faux tree stump, and had some snow and mini pine-cones on it - it's really cute, I promise! It did not have a price tag, but with the sale going on it couldn't have been over five bucks (that was my thinking). I get up to check out and I preface the item's condition (last one, no tag) and then place it on the counter. The lady looks at me, "scans" the bottom, and says, "Not a problem." Wasn't that so nice!

Third thing - my hair. Does it look any different? Probably not since these aren't the best pictures. However, it looks and feels different in real life. I started using Wen yesterday. I'm pretty notorious for staying up late, watching infomercials, and then ordering things I don't need. I'm that girl. I ordered Wen back in grad school (late one night, of course) and used it up, but didn't re-order. It was nice, but I wasn't really sure if it made a difference. Well this time was different. (And for the record, my mom ordered this batch - late night, watching infomercials - it runs in the family). She didn't really care to use it and gave it all to me.

So after washing, instead of drying my hair upside down and curling, I did a blow-out with a round-brush. It has body, it is light and bouncy, and it is incredibly soft. If you've never heard of it before, you should definitely look into it. Its difference is that it doesn't strip your hair down (like shampoo does) and therefore makes it shiny and healthier. Go read up on it and watch the videos - it definitely worked for me!

This is a true gold colored eyeshadow. Which may or may not sound intimidating to you - just looking at it was pretty intimidating to me, but I tried it out not too long ago and I love it! I've been using it on my lid and then a darker brown, gold color in my crease (which I talked about here) just about every day.

If applied with a light hand, this combo works well for daily wear. It's also a great color for transitioning into an evening look, and just perfect for the holidays in general. This is also a versatile color to purchase as shimmering golds are perfect for summer time. If you are more of a MAC guru, I believe Flip and Amber Lights are very similar. The Loreal HIP colors probably have a nice quality gold as well.

Love, love, love this color!

Friday Favorites: November Favorites

1. Smashbox Blush Rush in Passion This is definitely my favorite blush at the moment. It is a true pink, it's matte, and it is blendable. You can use a light hand for a soft, light application or you can really build the product up for a bright pink cheek. This is definitely going to be my go-to blush throughout the winter.

2. Rimmel Intense Wear Lipstick in Airy Fairy I purchased this a while ago and I am only now getting into regularly wearing it. This seems to happen a lot with me and makeup and clothes. Anyway, I had heard a lot of rave about this color and decided since it was inexpensive I would give it a go. This is a soft pink lipstick. Again, a perfect product for the winter months as it is a soft, light, and has a romantic feel to it.

3. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Smog UD eyeshadows are my favorite. They are good quality and there is such a variety of colors available. I've probably talked about Smog before - it was the first color I'd ever tried from UD and I've loved it ever since. It's a brownish-gold color and it's perfect for packing on the lip, blending into the crease, and lining the lash lines. So it's a super versatile color which is what most of your eyeshadow colors should be.

4. Say Yes to Carrots Lip Butter in Melon The cold months of fall and winter are now upon us and I don't know about you, but this means my lips are going to get chapped. It happens every year. My go-to solution this winter is this lip butter. It's so smooth and smells delicious, plus it works really well. It's also organic which is pretty awesome in my book. It's available at any drug store.

5. Mac Mineralized Skinfinish Natural I like using pressed powder to set my foundation. It helps to keep it lasting throughout the day and give a more natural, airbrushed look. I really like Mac's MSF line; however, when I run out I'll probably buy a cheaper pressed powder. I feel like there are certain beauty products you should splurge on and others that drug store brands are just as good - and pressed powder is one that it's all kind of the same.

6. Stila One Step Foundation I have been using this foundation almost everyday since getting it. It claims to be a primer, concealer, foundation, and powder all in one and it may be, but I haven't tried that out. I need to just wear this stuff one day, but I always just go ahead and put on my primer and concealer first and then top it all with powder. Either way it's fantastic. It offers full coverage and goes on so nicely. It is extremely pricey, but in my defense, I ordered it from a wholesale website and got it for less than half ($17!). There's also a lot of product in the package - I've been using it everyday and still have over 3/4 left! Love this stuff!

Friday Favorites

Today's Friday Favorite was easy. Earlier this week I tired, for the first time, using this gel eyeliner on my waterline. I usually use a smooth-gliding pencil for my waterline and they all fail. By the time I am out the door, the liner is at least half way off and looks horrible. Not this. This stuff... was on until I washed my face later that night. I was shocked and excited.

I've never been able to find a product that stays on my waterline. And, just for the record, I don't cake on the eyeliner. I use very little liner on the lash line and the waterline during the day (and sometimes a little more at night for the dramatics), but however much I use, I want it to stay put.

I also love this stuff because it's relatively easy to apply. Granted, I required a bit of practice as this was only the second liner I've used that isn't a stick or felt-tip application. Once you get the hang of it though, it's nothing. And it's worth learning, because (again) this stuff is great.

Let's talk the price. It will set you back $15 - which may seem like a lot or may not seem like a lot depending what you already use. The price is worth it. This stuff last a super-duper long time, it doesn't dry out, and it does its job. Three great reasons $15 is worth it. I will continue to buy this - perhaps even in other colors too.

You will need an angled eye-liner brush to apply this if you do not already have one.

So that is that:

1. It stays on your lash line and waterline all day long.
2. It's fairly easy to apply (just practice if you need).
3. The price is worth what you get and how long it lasts.

Any questions...

Friday Favorites

{via}

{it's not in stock right now on Sephora or Ulta, but try actually going in the stores or other places online like Amazon}

I've written on this palette before, but it has never been featured as a favorite, and it most definitely is - especially since I have been using it almost every day since it came in the mail back in September. This palette is most definitely a bit pricey, it will put you back $44 (ask for it for Christmas!), but it is well worth the price - let me explain.

The palette is comprised of 12 full-sized eye shadow colors. Full-sized UD eye shadow pots are $17. If you buy three solo pots, you've already spent past the $44. The palette features some of UD's most coveted colors as well as some new colors that you can't buy individually. The colors in the palette range from light highlighting colors to dark smoky colors. In the palette you will see colors such as white, tan, brown, gold, rose, plum, black, and blue (check out the picture). I've swatched a few of the colors before. Something I personally love about UD eyeshadows is that not only are the colorss gorgeous, but they are highly pigmented. Which means one sweep with your brush does the trick, and the colors will last you longer when you aren't having to constantly build the color on your eye. As if getting 12 full-sized colors wasn't enough, you also receive a mini UD Eye shadow Primer Potion (which is a favorite of mine) and a double-ended 24/7 Glide-On Pencil which features Whiskey (brown) and Zero (black) - I'm not a huge fan of pencil liners, but this one is great! Very smooth and perfect for waterlines.

The versatility of the palette allows you to create a natural looking eye, a brown smokey eye, a blue smokey eye, or anything else you can think of with these colors. Since fall rolled around, I've been using Toasted (shimmery rose) on my lid and Hustle (a dark plum) on my crease - it's a great fall combination. With all the possible combinations this palette has to offer, it's perfect for traveling. If you are going on a weekend trip or somewhere for just a couple days, this palette is perfect. You only have to keep up with one piece for your eye color and you can create just about any look you would want. There's no opening and closing little pots of eye shadow or digging around your makeup bag for the color you are looking for.

I feel like I've written a ton, but it's just such a favorite of mine. (And I'm not getting paid to say any of this - I just am in love with the palette). UD eye shadows are definitely a favorite of mine since the very first time I tried them. My first color was Smog - a goldish-brown - and it's front and center in the palette.

If you are curious about the palette, just go to your local Sephora, Ulta, or UD counter and play with it. But I'm warning you, you may fall in love.

Friday Favorites

Y'all, this is my all time favorite eau de parfum. And I mean all time. The scent is fresh and elegant, it stays on all day long, and the bottle is easy on the eyes - perfect for displaying on a dresser or vanity. Without fail, any time I wear this goodness someone comments on how amazing it smells - it's that good. It's also Chanel, which, in my opinion, makes it a classic and something worth splurging on. I received a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle a couple Christmases ago and I am just now down to my last few drops - which is great because I usually never make it through entire bottles of perfume so quickly, but now I need more. The only other time I raced through a bottle of perfume was when I had Very Irresistible by Givenchy - another amazing and favorite perfume.

I don't remember the exact moment I was in a department store and first smelled Coco Mademoiselle, but I'm so glad that happened and that I asked for it for Christmas. I highly recommend you get out there and sniff some yourself. You won't regret it!

October Favorites

I apologize in advanced that half of these favorites are lip products.

I found this lip stick on clearance a while back for $9. It's a beautiful color. A burnt orange almost - which sounds weird for putting on your lips, but it works. It's really a great color for Fall. This lipstick lasts as well. Which is always a plus.

I've spoken on this line of lip stick before, but I've only recently purchased this color - and I love it! It's a shade of red, but definitely has the undertones of peach and even pink. It's bright and gorgeous without being overly red - which I love a bright red just as much as the next person, but sometimes a subtle red is more appropriate.

I'd been eyeballin' this lipgloss for a while and mom bought it for me on my birthday last month. There are several great features to this gloss. It's long lasting and the color pay off is great - definitely better than most glosses. It also contains Maxi-Lip which is a plumper, but it's non-irritant, which means it doesn't sting like other lip plumpers. Which is awesome. Naked is a pinky neutral. It taste good (vanilla mint!) and lasts forever.

Now, I haven't technically purchased this, but I have been using a couple samples that I was given through Sephora purchases and it's one of my most favorite scents. (Maybe I'll share my very favorite scent this Friday!) This is a very feminine, soft, and fresh scent. The description says it's a combination of roses and amber. I'm sure it's a little more than that, but whatever the combination is, it works! I love this stuff!

5. Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss ($7 or 2/$12 or 5/$20)
I like this gloss mostly for it's flavor, although, it does do a great job at glossifying. I have two flavors, Passion Fruit Pop and Juiced Berry - both delicious. There are 21 flavors to choose from, and I'm sure they are equally delicious.

Another birthday gift from mom. I'd been wanting this blush for a while. It's considered a "cult" favorite and loved by all. It's a peachy pink with golden shimmer. It's almost exactly like the Lorac Blush I mentioned in September Favorites, but the shimmer in Lorac is cooler, with silver highlights instead, but the peachy pink color is the same. I love them both, though. This color is universally flattering. It highlights and warms up the face. It's perfect.

7. Lush Sexy Peel Soap ($5.95 for 3.5 oz)
I love Lush. I want everything in the store, but that's not possible. This particular soap is what I am digging right now. It's citrus scent is so delicious and takes over your entire shower. All of the products at Lush are handmade and natural. Sexy Peel is made of organic lemon, lime, and orange peels which help to exfoliate while washing and also made up of orange juice. It's especially nice to use in the morning, but I love it any time of day. Another soap I really like is the Bohemian Soap - it's made with lemon oils and smells oh, so fresh.

I've been using this concealer almost every day since I purchased it over a month ago and haven't even made a dent in it. A tiny bit goes a long way and offers full coverage. This stuff works miracles and I can't really see myself buying any other concealer any time soon. I love it. A tiny bit fully covers under my eyes, discolorations on my cheeks, and any redness around the bottom of my nose. It you are interested in trying or purchasing this stuff, definitely go by a counter and have someone help find your correct color - that's what makes the difference.

Hope you all enjoyed these favorites!
