Awkward Comment of the Day

Today at work I was coming out of a patient's room and saw a nurse that I recently met and talked with - not leisurely, but about a patient she had and I was seeing. So I came out of the room, said hey, she said hey, and then proceeded with this:

"You look like one of those girls that's in those scary movies."

Me: {awkward giggle. awkward face.} "What do you mean?"

"You just look like one of those girls that's in those movies. Those girls that be running around stabbing people."

Me: {even more awkward face.} "Ok. That's weird." And then I walked away. What else is there to say?

How the heck am I supposed to take a comment like that? And who the heck says that to someone they don't know? So weird. I feel like I could take the comment two ways. 1.) Most girls in horror movies are attractive girls - maybe I just remind her of a girl she saw in some horror movie. Or 2.) I had such a determined look on my face (and slightly upset face as I was given a lot of patients to see this afternoon) that it reminded her of a horror movie. I don't know?

I like to think the first option is what she was referring to, but I can't be certain. I did walk by her later in the day and do a stabbing motion, while laughing, of course. Then she smiled and said, "We straight." Not sure how to take that either...

What a weird and awkward situation.

On a different note. Maybe you've noticed, maybe you haven't - but I've definitely been lacking in the posting department this week. Besides working 40 hours, it's been a pretty busy week with appointments after work and classes to attend. Ok, just one class. During work. Which, by the way, if you read my twitter, you'll know that I pray to the Lord that I never need CPR from the majority of the ladies that were in my class today. It was scary. Anyway, sorry about the lack of posts. I'm thinking I may need to pick out two to three days of the week where I have a "themed" post. Like Music Monday or Five Things Friday. What do you all think of that?

Wow that IS extremely awkward. How strange, Im not sure I would know how to respond to that too. But I liked your little stabbing motion gesture to make lite of it. :) Thats pretty funny.
Maybe she just really likes scary or horror movies? Maybe she was just trying to be funny... either way.. it definitely sounds awkward! lol

That's such a weird thing to say. No wonder you asked what she meant...I don't know what I would have done...

Saying that my neighbour told me two days ago that I looked fatter. I was pretty annoyed but I at least she said what she meant to say and it was crystal clear :-S

Sorry about your awkward day. Hate awkward situations like that.

And welcome to the 40 hour work week and also having a blog life. I haven't posted in about a month! But I REALLY like your idea of some themed days. Good plan!

That is so awkward! Who would say that to anyone?

I totally understand the busy schedule, I have been a very bad blogger in May :) xo

that is so strange! i could never imagine saying something like that to someone i barely know. i hope your new job is going well though and you are adjusting to it! i'd love to hear more about what you do!

Well, I'd say that you handled it the best anyone could. So odd! And yes, I'm sure it was because you're tall, thin, and beautiful--just like all movie stars. Also, think your posting options sound great. Give yourself a break--a full time job is a LOT of adjustment!

That is really awkward! Maybe they thought you looked like Sarah Michelle Gellar? She is in quite a few scary movies. Perhaps they just couldn't place you?

As regards the random strange remarks, I think you met someone with one of those social disorders that makes them say weird things to people - I'm not joking, there really are conditions that prevent people from knowing what is appropriate or inappropriate, and those people say very peculiar things to others and don't know why they get the responses they get. I had this explained to me by the girlfriend of a man with such a disorder (she had met him in the counseling agency where she worked and he was a client) after he had made several random, borderline offensive personal remarks to me at a party, while acting as though he was making average smalltalk. I still avoid him, anyway, because I'm not sure how much of what he says can or can't be helped.

Just face it Linley, you are a psychotic and evil looking girl. :) Totally kidding!! That whole conversation made me laugh. Don't worry about posting infrequently, that happens to everyone.

I would have been so confused! Why would she say that?!

Wow, that is beyond awkward! Some people just don't know how to interact with others.

As far as posting, I think a theme or a schedule is very helpful, even if you don't have a clever name for it. Starting a new job is quite a transition, so don't worry about it if you need some time off!

Can I ask what you do? I am in school for physical therapy and it sounds like you may be an OT or PT. Just curious...and BTW, I have never thought you looked like a horror movie. Awkward indeed.

Yeah... not quite sure what to think about the whole you-look-like-a-psychotic-stabber comment. That is extremely weird. Clearly your only option is to make stabbing motions at her every single time you make eye contact from now on.

I am so confused. :) But I think Jess is right about the SMG reference...

Oh. my. word. And I thought that some of the people I've worked with were awkward! For the record, I think that her opinion - whatever that may be because like you said, what does a comment like that mean, anyway? - is limited to her. You're beautiful, and even though I've never met you, I'm pretty sure you'd never go on a killing frenzy with a knife! Lol.
Also, I work 40 hours a week and do freelance. Fact of life for those of who work and try to keep a blog: if you don't commit to posting on the same days every week, then the blog will get stale. You can do it! If you don't post, your faithful readers will still be patient with you, or at least I will. Us working girls gotta stick together! :)

Okay, I am trying SO hard not to laugh at work right now while reading your post! That is such a WEIRD comment!!! Wow. Yeah, I wouldn't have known what to even say to that! The fact that you did a little stabbing motion totally put me over the edge and made me LOL.

I think she definitely meant it as you look like one of those pretty girls in scary movies (the always seem to be tall, blond and thin) so take it as a very strange compliment!

Haha, this is funny and strange all at once. The woman is probably intimidated by your good looks and wanted to pull you down but giving you a backhanded compliment. Don't lose your confidence!!:)

okay, that's just weird. i am a firm believer that jealousy is the root of all evil and i bet that's the case here. she's probably threatened by the new cute young slp working with her and has to use very odd passive aggressive comments to make you uncomfortable. people are strange.

That is hilarious! Either way you look at it, it made your day quite entertaining....

Ok, you should know that I read this post on my phone while I was at work, and I immediately started cracking up! We happened to have a few visitors in our office who walked by my office while I was laughing by myself & looked at me like I was crazy. :)

But seriously, how do you respond to a comment like that?! Who says that!
