REVIEW: ProfilePRO Customized Hair Care

I've never been fussy over shampoo or conditioner. I don't have a go-to brand or type of product that I use on a daily basis. I've used everything - drug store brands like Tresemme and Herbal Essence to more expensive products like Bumble and Bumble, Paul Mitchell, and Wen. I've never stuck with one brand too long and I've never been against trying new brands. So when ProfliePRO asked me to try out their customizable products, I was happy to do so!

The Product:

Basically, ProfliePRO customizes and formulates it's products for your specific hair type based on a questionnaire you fill out prior to placing an order.

You answer these questions, customize the name of your own shampoo and conditioner, and then check out. Easy-peasy!

They've put in the work and done their homework. They've analyzed different profile results and tested them on the various hair types to make sure each custom profile works! Their products are made in a manufacturing facility for cosmetics and hair products in Italy. The products are sulfate free for a gentle clean.

The Review:

My initial thought when I read about this product was awesome. Most shampoos and conditioners I've used only consider one (maybe two) characteristics of hair (re: for blondes, thickening, or smoothing). So to come across a product that's formulated for my type, texture, behavior, and scalp - all in one - was pretty impressive and definitely got me interested.

So I customized my products. My hair is wavy, frizzy, and thick. It's colored. And my scalp is between normal and dry. I chose the Jasmine scent. And done. It was being made in Italy and soon would be at my door.

First off, the signature Jasmine scent is ahhhh-stinkin'-mazin' y'all. For real. It's perfectly pleasant. Some beauty product scents are just too much. Over-bearing and sometimes even overcompensating for the product itself. I'm sure the other ProflinePRO scent options are just as great, but I totally recommend Jasmine.

It took me a couple weeks to really use the product and feel comfortable writing about it. I wash my hair 1-2 times a week, so I wanted to get in a few washes before forming any opinions. Because I don't wash my hair daily, it's important for me to have a shampoo that really cleans the scalp. I use dry shampoo daily and between that and just being out in the elements, I get a decent amount of buildup  around my roots after a few days. So shampoo is crucial for me. I don't care about the brand, it just needs to cleanse and restore my hair.

I had just a couple issues with the shampoo. Each time I washed my hair, I found myself having to use excess amounts to cover all of my hair. The website states that the shampoo does not lather due to it being sulfate-free. I've actually used a couple of non-lathering shampoos that have been great. The problem I had with the ProfliePRO was that it didn't really distribute. Once I put the shampoo in one area, it was almost impossible for me to move the product elsewhere. It felt like it just disappeared into my hair. I subsequently had to use more and more of the product to cover my entire head. I do have a lot of hair, but I just found it annoying that I had to go back to the bottle multiple times per wash.

In addition to that, as I mentioned, I need a product that washes away the buildup and grime; however, my scalp didn't feel as clean as I wanted it following a wash - which could have just been a result of having a difficult time moving the product around in my hair. So that was disappointing. In contrast to that, the shampoo is marketed as gentle and if you're someone who washes daily, it would probably be perfect for you. I need a deeper clean because of my washing schedule.

I think if you wash your hair every day or even every other day you need to try this customizable shampoo and conditioner. If you only wash a couple times a week, you may find it to be too gentle for a really good cleaning. Either way, I highly recommend everyone giving it a try!

Daily Threads: Wedding Wear

dress: c/o karen kane, pumps: franco sarto via tj maxx (similar), clutch: thrifted

Over the weekend we had a wedding to attend - I finally was able to wear this gorgeous, lace dress I've been dying to wear for a couple months now! So in love! Oh, I also chopped my hair. I guess I could use the word finally for that as well... I said I was going to chop my hair over a year and a half ago, but it never happened. I finally mustered the guts and I have to say I'm loving it! It's extremely different, but it's a great change - and Christopher loves it.

Happy Monday!

Decisions

Recently, I've been thinking about scheduling a hair appointment for a chop! When my hair gets a certain length, I'm usually really to get rid of it. I was sure I would chop my hair up to my chin after our wedding; it's a year later and I'm still loving the long hair. However, recently I've been considering a collar-bone length.

My hair is super long right now - perhaps longer than it's been for years, but I work in healthcare. It's not necessarily appropriate to be around patients leaning over them, giving them food, or being in their personal space with long, flowy curls all over the place. Most days I wear my hair either completely up or partially up - which isn't a big deal, but I have a lot of hair and when it's all up, all day long, I get headaches - weird, but true. So I'm thinking a chop might solve some problems.

There are pictures like this that make me want to run to the salon.

Then there are photos like this that make me want to keep my locks.

But, of course, there are always hair extensions.

What's a girl to do? What would you do?

Review: HANAair Professional Hair Dryer

Last month I was sent a HANAair Professional Hair Dryer from Misikko to use and review! It was really a blessing because my current hair dryer has been carrying out a long, slow, and painful death. Seriously, I've had it for years and it has started sparking a little - scary, but I dealt with it - but now I don't have to!

When I received my hair dryer, it was a pleasant surprise to open the package and find tons of goodies from Misikko! Some of my goodies included a flat iron mat, ceramic round brush, Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner, and a hair dryer bag for storage and travel - which is a fabulous bag to have!

After digging through the goodies and finding the dryer box, I couldn't wait to pull the actual dryer out. It's medium sized, a decent weight, and has a sleek, black design. One of the most fabulous features is the extra-long power cord. You guys, this cord is over 10 feet long - I measured. Having a long power cord is quite the luxury. Other features of this dryer include two fan speeds, three heat settings, and a cold shot button. It's also shaped for easy handling and the motor is a lot quieter than my previous dryer.

This particular hair dryer has ion technology which conditions hair and reduces static electricity (which, let's be honest, isn'ts flattering for anyone). This dryer also is designed to promote healthy hair and provide antibacterial protection. Bottom line, not all hair dryers are created equally! I'm not in the hair care business, but I think it's safe to say that this hair dryer is top-shelf selection.

Before providing a review I really wanted to use the dryer a few times and a couple different ways. Most times, I throw my head upside down and just dry; other times I use a round brush. It didn't matter how I used the dryer, my hair always felt soft and dried quickly - a double whammy! I love this thing.

I also wanted to mention that a sample size of the HANA shine Shield Heat Protector was in my box and it's my new favorite hair product. Seriously, get this stuff. It smells amazing and makes my hair incredibly soft. I can't stop touching it after it's dry.

Misikko is offering you all 10% off your purchase - just enter HAHA10 at check-out! So head over to their site and check out their ion hair dryers, their selection of best flat irons, and the rest of the flat irons!

Hair Tutorial: Fishtail Braid

I've had a few people ask for a tutorial on my fishtail braid - and so here it is! I hope it's easy to understand and I'd love to know if you re-create the look! I'm also going to be doing one on a knotted bun later on. Enjoy!

The only important thing I said while the music was playing was that if you have really fine or silky hair, you may want to invest in some texturing product (a spray or balm). Textured hair really helps to keep the hair where you want it! Good luck!

The Sock Bun

Through Facebook I stumbled across a video that claimed putting your hair into a "sock bun" before going to bed would result in beautiful curls the next morning. I was curious. No heat? No slaving over the curling iron and rollers? Yes, please. So I tried it. And it works. Amazingly. And I wanted to share.

Here is the sock bun.

Here is my hair after sleeping in the sock bun.

Friday Favorites

A week or so ago I was in Ulta (shocker...) and right as I walked in, I was greeted with a display of several pink products - for breast cancer awareness. On one table there was Ulta shampoos and conditioners and other bath products in pink colors, another table had a huge raffle basket full of pink goodies, and another table had some TIGI products. I naturally moved towards the TIGI products.

On this table was the Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo, Massive Shine Hair Spray, and Hard Head Hairspray. What was even prettier than the display of all these pink products was the price. They were all on sale for $6.99. I got one of each. Getting one of each is equivalent to buying one at regular price. That's a deal steal.

If you use these products or want to try them out, I would suggest getting to an Ulta now. I'm not completely sure they are still running this sale, but it's worth stopping by to check. I love the dry shampoo. I love the shine hairspray (great for a bit of hold and shine - like when straightening). And I love the hard hold hairspray - my curls stay curled. And the bottles look pretty.

(The large round stickers pull off. So read them first, then pull them off - if you want.)

Hair Cut

If you and I had been having a conversation six months ago about hair, I would have let you know that immediately after our honeymoon I planned on chopping inches off my hair and coloring it something new like a darker brown or an auburn red. I was set on doing it. It's what I do. Grow my hair out for two years (cause my hair sucks and grows super slow) then I chop it off somewhere between my ears and shoulders. Like it for a few weeks. Then decide to start the two year growth process again. It's a cycle. A cycle I've clung to for many, many years.

When we got back from our honeymoon we drove down to Alabama. We found a place to live. I drove back to NC. I packed. I drove back down to AL. I moved it. I unpacked. I decorated. I cooked. I cleaned. And I had no time to chop all my hair off. During this time of not remembering I wanted to chop my hair off, I developed a crush on my long hair and we are now in love. For some reason he doesn't knot up in the back like he usually does at this length. for some reason he stay where I want him and does what I tell him. He's kind of the perfect hair and I plan on keeping him around. Until he starts knotting up and acting crazy. Then he'll go.

I did get a hair cut today, though. When she asked what I wanted to do the first words out of my mouth were, "I want to keep my length." I then went on to explain although I love my long hair, it's all the same length and it's blah. It's weighed down, there's limited body, and I need some layers. So away she cut. I kept my eyes closed most of the time since she was someone new to me and I was kind of attached. So when she finally finished and asked me to take a look and play with it to see what I thought, I smiled. I was so happy. She did it perfectly. Exactly what I had imagined and would have done myself, if I could.

My hair needed layers badly. It was flat and lifeless, and only looked good if it was half up or all up. A new haircut is so refreshing. I hadn't had an actual cut in YEARS. (trims, yes. I try to keep the split ends at bay, but a cut, no.)

I took pictures of before I got my hair cut. I meant to take an after, but I am in bed, with all my hair pulled back and off my face, and I have my sleepy face on. So no after picture. Maybe I'll get a picture this weekend. When I snap an after picture, I'll be sure to share.
