Fab Five Friday

In lieu of my birthday being next week (eeep!), I thought I would list five things I want. Now, this isn't to say that this is all I want. Ah, the material world. Please scroll on down to see what this little girl loves.

Ooops, was that more than five...

Here are two reasons why I love watching tv talent shows.

Daily Threads: Horses

It felt nice to get out and take some outfit photos today (as I haven't done it in quite some time - oops.). It was a gloomy day today - rainy, dark, muggy, blah. The kind of day that makes you want to stay in bed. Yeah, that would have been nice. Instead I worked, and then changed into something cute - opposed to collapsing on the couch and taking a nap. Go me!

Side note #1: I wanted this jacket like whoa (yeah, I said it) a while back, but it sold out online in no time. I walked into the store this weekend and there were tons! Just in case you were bummed out that the link lead you nowhere.

Side note#2: The necklace I am wearing was a DIY I put together for Every Body Every Wear. It's pretty simple, so you should try it. I've worn this thing non-stop.

Over the Weekend

As mentioned in my previous post, I headed up to the NC mountains this past weekend to visit and celebrate with my friends! Here are a couple photos from the weekend.

Our view from the hotel. This view never gets boring. I was incredibly happy to be there - the scenery is gorgeous and the air is so fresh.

Saturday we ventured up to Barber Orchard for some apples! I walked away with a peck of Galas (I'm going to attempt my first apple pie!), an apple cake, apple cider, apple butter, and hot mexican salsa (the best salsa around - if you like it hot).

The reason we all got together this weekend was to celebrate those two ladies in the middle - Nicole and Donna! (Congrats, friends!) The ceremony was outside on a farm and it was a gorgeous day! Above is about half of our grad school class!

Then the gang got together for another shot.

The night ended with everyone gathered around the fire just hanging out and listening to the musicians play songs like Wagon Wheel on their guitars and violins. At some point in the night I looked up and the view was amazing. The only light around was the fire and the sky was clear - I saw millions of stars. It was a perfect night.

On a different note - congrats to Heather! You won the Chipolle earrings!

Heading to North Carolina

This weekend I am heading up to the mountains of North Carolina. I was considerate of all of you as I refrained from typing that first sentence in all caps. I am beyond excited to a.) be in the beautiful NC mountains - enjoying the scenery and inhaling the air and b.) being re-united with all my friends! We are getting together for what's going to be a gorgeous, outside wedding!

I'm not going to be seeing all of our friends from grad school (bummer), but most of them! In particular, it's the six of us getting back together! We were all NSSLHA officers for our program - and between classes, meetings, and events it was often the five of us! I love it and I miss it. Here are some pictures of us. Hope you all enjoy your weekend as much as I plan on enjoying mine!

No, we did not plan to coordinate. We are just awesome.

Michael was such a champ for dealing with nothing but women.

Giveaway: Pradman Chipolle Earrings

similar: cardigan, sweater, skirt, and shoes
pearl necklace & chain necklace c/o jess lc, earrings c/o pradman jewels

I've got a good one for y'all today! See those gorgeous, green onyx earring I have on? They could be yours! I had the opportunity to select a piece of jewelry from Pradman Jewels, and while it was a tough decision (as everything they carry is so lovely and lust-worthy) I could not stop looking at these earrings. They come in so many brilliant colors, but the green onyx was perfect for me; it's so close to a Kelly Green - a color that I think it perfect all year round! The size of these is perfect too - large enough to notice, but without being obnoxious (I don't do big earrings - if they're bigger than your ear, they're too big).

Pradman is offering one of you a pair of the Chipolle Earrings in your choice of color!

I'm Back

Oh, hello! I'm Linley - the girl who blogs here. Of course, it's been over a week since my last post so you might have already forgotten about me. If you keep reading, I promise I'll provide some legit reasons for being MIA. Promise!

Last week at work we were short a staff member. It also seemed to be the week that lots of people had strokes, respiratory failure, and other diagnoses that required a speech/swallow evaluation - mix these two together and you have an insanely exhausting week. My caseload doubled as I had to take additional patients and then we got hit with a wave of new evals - leaving me physically, emotionally, and mentally drained. Needless to say, once I got home each day, I'd pass out on the couch. When I woke up, it was almost dark and time for dinner - leaving no time or effort for blogging. If that wasn't enough for you, I've also been attacked with the allergy bomb. I've been sneezing, had throbbing, relentlessness sinus headaches, and a sore throat.

I'm making up for it, though! I have some giveaways scheduled for the upcoming weeks, a DIY feature that I can't wait to share, and I'm feeling inspired by this second wave of fall-like weather - so I can't wait to put together some warm looks! Hope you all have had a great weekend!

Over the Weekend

Our weekend consisted of a mexican restaurant date night, almost purchasing a baby boxer, two trips to the yogurt bar, several 9/11 documentaries, and a lot of football games.

It doesn't matter how many times I watch those planes fly into the towers or how many times I watch them crumble to the ground, nor how many people I see jumping out of the buildings, or how many times I see people running from a blinding cloud of smoke and dust, or how many personal stories I hear - it always, time after time, puts a tremendous lump in my throat, heavy weight on my heart, fills my eyes with tears, and more than anything it makes my blood boil. Boil to the point that I'm infuriated with the fact that we haven't blown Al Qaeda off the map. And I'll stop there.

If you've watched NFL games today you've probably seen the State Farm commercial with the young children singing Empire State of Mind. It was a collaborative effort that sent close to 150 children to four firehouses in NYC to thank them through the song. I cried every time it came on today.

Fab Five Friday: Fall Edition

So it's not technically fall, but with Labor Day behind us and these fall-like weather conditions here in Alabama, I'm pretending it is. So I'm here to share with you five, fall-related things I've loved this week! Go!

It's here! Tuesday Starbucks started selling these tasty treats and I was there to enjoy my first of many this season! If you haven't tried one of these get to your local Starbucks and try it out. Unless you're crazy, you'll love it! They also have this Salted Caramel Mocha thing going on that I think I will have to try out. Have you tried this one yet? I'd like to hear about it before I forego my PSL and try something new.

I love B&BB winter candles (Fresh Balsam, omg!) . I stocked up last year and when they make their seasonal debut this year I plan to do the same thing. This year I showed up a little early for the fall scents. I've heard a couple people rant and rave about the Leaves Candle and I just could not resist smelling it myself. Let me tell you, it was love at first sniff. It has a pumpkin, spiced cider aroma - perfectly fall! This is my fall candle!

These are my beloved NC mountains - one of the best places in the world as far as I am concerned. In two weeks I will be heading to these glorious mountains and I am about to jump out of my pants to get there! I mentioned above the weather here lately has been delightful. Cool in the morning and mildly warm in the afternoon - perfect. I'm enjoying every second of it as we will be back in the 90s next week. Boo.

The NFL is back and we watched the opening game last night. Do I have a team... eh, not really. I do tend to always pull for the Falcons, Chargers, and Eagles - but I just prefer to watch good games and amazing players. I am in a fantasy football league this year and I'm looking forward to that opening my eyes even more to the game. I love it!

It took a lot of will-power to resist buying all these gorgeous, fall colors. So I just purchased Carry On and then ran out of the store so I wasn't tempted to buy the others. Essie is my all time favorite nail polish; I love how it applies, wears, and the colors. The colors! That's my favorite part. Their colors are always perfect. All of them.

No link-up this week. Sorry, it just didn't seem to be a big hit. Feel free to continue your own Fab Five posts and comment below with your link!

Daily Threads: Bright

Y'all, I wasn't kidding about taking advantage of this cool weather. Leggings and a blazer? I love it! This was the first time I've been able to wear these leggings and I can tell you right now - these guys are carrying me through winter! They are incredibly thick and cozy! The bee's knees. I'm thinking I might be living in these guys when it really gets cold around here. I can't wait to tuck them into boots and throw on a sweater and scarf!

Daily Threads: Rainy Day

If you follow the weather, you know Tropical Storm Lee (now a depression) has made landfall and we are getting some much needed rain down here. Much needed. We are also getting some amazing temperatures. Y'all, the highs for this week are in the 70's and low 80's. I could not be happier. I plan on taking advantage of these lower temps and breaking out some fall gear. Don't judge, when we get a sneak peak of fall down here, we run with it. I know in a week or so we'll be back near 100.

This weekend I was reminded why I love fall so much. We spent Saturday flipping back and forth between college football games - my Wolfpack barely came through with a win. It's going to be a long season. Then, Sunday we went to a restaurant to eat wings and watch some NFL games. We sat down and this was in front of me - totally made my weekend! Hope your weekend was just as great!

Fab Five Friday: Foundations

I decided to do a themed Fab Fve today. Back when I started my blog (over a year ago - I can't believe that)  I shared Favorites of mine, which usually involved beauty products. So I think I'll be incorporating some beauty favorites - blushes, eye shadows, lipsticks.

Below are the five foundations I reach for most often. There aren't certain occasions I wear one foundation or the other - it's just kind of whatever I feel like putting on that day. I go through phases of wearing each for for a couple months. I've found that these five are ones I've purchased more than once.

I find myself grabbing for the loose, mineral foundation on the weekends. It's fast, easy, and offers the perfect amount of coverage that's not too much, but just enough. I have two colors - one for winter, one for summer.

I don't typically wear drug store foundation. Not because I don't think the quality is good - I actually think drug store brands have several great products. I just hate that I can't swatch the foundation before buying. There are so many different shades, and I almost always grab the wrong one. I just can't handle not having a near-perfect match for foundation. Luckily, when I decided to try this foundation out, I grabbed the perfect color. I love this stuff, The coverage is great, application is smooth, and it lasts all day.

Of the five mentioned, this is my go-to foundation right now. It's water-based, provides just the right amount of coverage, and isn't heavy or cake-like feeling. I love this stuff.

This stuff is called One Step because it's supposed to act like your primer, concealer, foundation, and powder all in one. I ended up buy this because of a beauty guru on YouTube that raved about it. I'll admit, I never used it as all found steps - I still applied my primer, concealer, and powder. So I can't speak on its one-step capabilities, but I still think it's a great product. I don't know if it's being discontinued, but it's less than $15 on their site if you want t try it out!

I came across this foundation several years ago by walking into a Sephora, naked-faced, and just trying out different products. This happened to be the foundation I tried out and I loved it! I've bought this foundation several times since. This was the foundation I wore on my wedding day. It's smooth and applies easily - gives the right amount of coverage and it's packaging is sleek and compact. Love this stuff!
