Daily Threads: Weekend Casual

{target tee, tj maxx jeans: similar , express leather jacket: similar , isaac mizrahi loafers: similar, self-made necklace}

One great thing about photographing your outfits is that you get to see them in a different medium - you know, rather than in a mirror or in a store window reflection. I actually think a photo is most successful at helping me see what I'm wearing as objectively as possible. Today was proof. I didn't realize that these shoes aren't working for me with this outfit until after uploading these onto my computer. Nude pumps or maybe my UO red pumps would have worked better. Oh, you live and learn. Oh, you style blog and learn.

Actually, forget everything I just said. I think a full-length mirror could have nipped this in the bud. Note to self: we need a full-length mirror - asap. There we go - Oh, you live and learn.

On another note. I spent all weekend making jewelry. Back in December I made some earrings for mom for Christmas. One pair was made with a bee charm and yellow and gold glass beards - to match her school - she's a teacher. Many of her co-workers loved the earrings and were willing to pay for a pair. So I made them last week. When the weekend came... I kept going. I made a few more earring designs that would appeal to these ladies and then I made some necklaces for me. This pendant above is one of them. I love it. I've been wanting a teal/turquoise pendant necklace for so long - and now I have one! And you can too! I may even give a couple away - would y'all like that??

I agree, it is a great way to see your outfit! It's like looking at a magazine vs people walking down the street.

The nude heels wouldve looked nice too, but you were going casual, so who cares?!

And that necklace is fabulous I love it!

I love this casual look! Low-key but still classy. I actually kind of like the flats--the pumps would have been great, too, but hey, it's the weekend! Weekends are for flats!

And I didn't know you had an etsy shop! The necklace is SUPER cute!

I started taking pictures of outfits about a month and a half ago and am always very shocked to see how different things look on the camera than in real life...I try to keep doing it so that I'll see what I look like from another's perspective.

And when you said that you made a necklace for your mom for Christmas I thought you meant the one coming up. I was pretty impressed. Then I realized you mean it in past tense. Ha!

What's wrong with the shoes? I can't see bad about them, actually when I looked at them said "I like" to myself,of course wearing pumps it's another option but like them for a casual turn ... cute necklace, turquoise is a must have piece for spring!

I agree, I don't see anything wrong with the shoes. It's refreshing to see a really casual chic ensemble. I love it. And I LOVE the turquoise pendant. You should definitely do a giveaway!

I am lusting over that leather jacket. When you're done with it, do you mind sending it my way? It's beautiful!

And I totally agree with you about outfit taking - it's so objective, which is both awful and awesome at the same time. :p

I've learned quite a few lessons through OOTD's just like this... and since then i also bought a full length mirror! (target has nice, inexpensive ones!)

and i'd totally love a giveaway or how-to on how you made the pendant!

The turquoise necklace is adorable!

I love this look, heels would have looked good but I like the comfy shoes. It makes the outfit look much more casual. Love that jacket too!

Having a full length mirror (and for a long time using it in my photos) is great, but I agree that daily outfit photos really help to put outfits in perspective. I like the casual shoe though - you can't wear heels everyday you know?

I totally disagree with you on the shoes comment. The shoes are one of my favorite parts of it. I love how casual it is paired with that jacket and a simple tee and jeans.

I used to have the exact, same shoes in black and got rid of them last year some time. That was before I wore skinny jeans and seeing your post now, they look much better with skinnies than bootcuts. Though I loved those shoes because they were comfortable I could never figure out how to style them. Now I'm angry I got rid of them. Boo.

totally in love with your necklace!!!

That necklace is SO pretty! I can't believe you made it. I bought a turquoise, similar necklace last week at F21...but it looks so cheap-y now in comparison to yours!

I've read that Lauren Conrad doesn't trust mirrors and relies on photos to make big outfit decisions. Not sure if I'd take Lauren's advice on many subjects, but dressing to be photographed is one thing she's a pro at! You look great!

Melissa said...

Um...yes, please. I love that necklace. And that jacket too.

I don't think I would make it out of the house if I didn't have a full length mirror. It's a must.

I didn't know you had an Etsy shop. I have a little shop too. http://www.etsy.com/shop/MelissaLund?ref=si_shop

I actually really like the loafers, maybe if you cuffed the jeans? I think you look great! I also LOVE that you made your necklace! Very cute. I find myself saying the same thing about mirrors and photos - and then thinking about Cher saying it in Clueless!

hi linley,
i totally agree w what u said about how pictures can speak more objectively than a mirror. on that note, the outfit works well...it's really cute. i'm all for nude pumps myself (recent obsession of mine). thanks for sharing! oooh, and love the necklace and how it pops! and yes, a giveaway would be great! ;)

I actually like the loafers for a change. I have some mocs on my radar for spring/ summer! They look kind of fresh for some reason this season. -A

Kelly said...

I agree with the "blog and learn" comment - I've been doing a lot of that the past few weeks.

But I actually really like the loafers. Before I even read your comment about the shoe choice, I thought about how great they looked! It's a nice casual look and I don't think you made any mistake with the footwear :)

Just my two cents!

Funny enough, your shoes are the best part in my opinion! They are cute and unexpected. I like that! :)

I love your necklace! I instantly was about to buy one, but then the fact that I decided to give up shopping for Lent came back into my mind. Sigh, when is Easter again? I'll be back to buy one then!

Jess said...

A giveaway would be awesome! That necklace is beautiful! Do you take your photos with a tripod or does your husband take them? You may have already addressed this in a post but I am absent-minded.

Lindsay Living said...

I totally get that. I think photographing my outfits each day has totally changed the way I see my outfits and myself for that matter. I'm better able to see what works and what doesn't and my mental bank of what goes well together keeps expanding.

P.S. You hair is GORGEOUS today!

cute outfit! i don't think the shoes are so bad. and funnily enough i just finished making three necklaces tonight - i am obsessed with turquoise but rather than overloading on it, i'm trying to make some to eventually sell. you should definitely do a giveaway, i plan to do one too, soon!

I actually really like the loafers, I've been on the hunt for some vintage ones for a while now. This is a great cozy weekend outfit.

Oh my goodness, I just had the same thought yesterday and posted a TERRIBLE outfit of mine (that I will never wear again) and today I'm catching up on all my fave blogs and realized we were on the same wavelength.

I love the casual vibe of this outfit, but how the loafers and necklace make it sophisticated.

Diggin the necklace!

P.S. I've rocked the knotted bun 3 times since you posted it. too much?

And I hope you have purchased a full-length mirror by now! Although your outfits are so great I don't think you really need it.
