Over the Weekend

Our weekend consisted of a mexican restaurant date night, almost purchasing a baby boxer, two trips to the yogurt bar, several 9/11 documentaries, and a lot of football games.

It doesn't matter how many times I watch those planes fly into the towers or how many times I watch them crumble to the ground, nor how many people I see jumping out of the buildings, or how many times I see people running from a blinding cloud of smoke and dust, or how many personal stories I hear - it always, time after time, puts a tremendous lump in my throat, heavy weight on my heart, fills my eyes with tears, and more than anything it makes my blood boil. Boil to the point that I'm infuriated with the fact that we haven't blown Al Qaeda off the map. And I'll stop there.

If you've watched NFL games today you've probably seen the State Farm commercial with the young children singing Empire State of Mind. It was a collaborative effort that sent close to 150 children to four firehouses in NYC to thank them through the song. I cried every time it came on today.

I didn't watch the game so I didn't see this commercial. Thanks for sharing, it brought tears to my eyes.

I absolutely love that commercial. Every time it has played to day I've gotten chocked up. It's really so beautifully done.

Hope my comment didn't sound rude.. I totally meant that it doesn't matter how many stories I hear, I still cry as if it's the first one! Have a great week :) Xo

Mexican food and trips to the yoghurt bar sounds like a perfect weekend. Even if it was marred with some sadness.

Like you, I spent Sunday continually tearing up. I can instantly recall the panic and confusion I felt on 9/11. I was only 11, but I live only a couple hours away from NYC and my mom's work was a potential target. I watched the second place crash into the second tower and both towers fall. Its imprinted in my mind.

Thanks for sharing the video, it was awesome!

I was in NYC last weekend, and it was so powerful to be there Sunday morning. A little eerie with police stopping everyone all over the city, but powerful to see the beautiful city still standing proud.
