Over the Weekend

This was actually last weekend. Sure, I'm a week behind, but this weekend is going to be filled with lounging in sweat pants, working out, and playing outside with Maeby. So now, you are actually getting two 'Over the Weekend' posts in one. Lucky you!

Last weekend husband and I and a guy he works with and his wife drove down to Orange Beach. The other couple had a friend working a booth at a Seafood Festival that was taking place - so we visited her at the festival then spent the majority of the day browsing outlets. Oh I love a great outlet mall.

I hate to do too much shopping when with a crowd - cause honestly, I can spend hours in one store and I hate being rushed into purchases. So I kept it simple - one cardigan in J Crew. However, I could have bought everything in there. Husband and I are going to go back down there one weekend and really get some shopping done. By our selves. Or maybe I'll just go. Anyone else like this?

We took a break at lunch and ate at Lambert's Cafe. Have you been to one? Probably not as they are only here and in MO. It was delicious and unique and there should be more of these around this country! They are famous for throwing rolls - yeah, you read that right. Every so often a guy will come to the front of the room and yell, "Hot rolls!" - you raise your hand and a roll comes flying your way. You better hope you're not in the line of fire. I was nervous, but raise my hand - I barely held on to it, thank God for the pinky finger!
It's a huge restaurant.

In addition to the flying rolls, several others walk around to each table dishing out what's called "Pass-arounds." There was fired okra, fried potatoes and onions, macaroni and tomatoes, and apple butter for the rolls, among other side as well. And you get your drink in those huge mugs!

A view from our booth. See the waiter walking this way - he's in jeans, suspenders, and a bow-tie - I loved it!

And this was my meal - which I could barely eat. Let's just say I might have gone overboard with the fried okra and grapefruit-sized rolls. The chicken and pastry was delicious as well as the cucumber and corn. You definitely get more food than you could possibly eat!

Although it's a couple hours away, it is right on the gulf coast and near an outlet mall, so hopefully we get to take our parents one day! I know they all will love it. The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious!

I do my best shopping by myself as well. I can't think when I have to be having a conversation or thinking about what other people are buying or where they want to go. So, no, you aren't the only one. And, I've been to a Lamberts! I think there's one in Alabama. It's definitely the same atmosphere, and I know it was know as the home of the "throwed rolls". Delicious! Glad you had fun.

I'm having a lounging weekend too...

You shopped during the 30 for 30? Ha :) Most of the time, I like to shop alone also. I am too indecisive and would make other people wait for me!

Lambert's seems amazing! Maybe I'll make it to the one in MO sometime.

Were you at the Foley outlet malls??? I LOVE that place! I'm located right smack in between the Foley outlet malls and the Destin outlet malls and I'm always at a loss as to which ones to shop at! And Lamberts! *sigh* I love that place!

I am so jealous of the plate full of yummy looking food in front of you. I wish I knew of a place where people could throw food at me around here. That sounds like too much fun.

I'm the same way about shopping. In fact, I don't ever really shop when I'm with people for that reason.

I just found you today and became a new follower.

Yummy Lamberts!! Everytime I go, they always scare me with that fake ketchup...by squirting it directly at my face. Did they do that to you?

I'm totally the same way when I shop!

Haha, my niece works there! And I know that outlet center very well. I live in Philadelphia now, but grew up in Gulf Shores. When we go back to visit my family we always go to that outlet center because we find great items and better prices than most outlet centers. =)

OMG, I only like to shop alone! I hate putting anyone through the pain of me picking between 2 practically identical items. For hours! I always end up making bad choices when someone is rushing me...
Anyway, exciting restaurant! I wish all meals were that fun :)

I've totally been to that Lambert's! In college, I ran track and we trained in Gulf Shores, AL every year during Spring Break. The annual highlight was going out to dinner there with the whole team. I dream of those "throwed" rolls and fried okra! Yum!

PS After watching your hair tutorial this morning, I did my hair like you. Well, at least I tried to do my hair like you. ;)

I totally misread your post! I thought you said, "they are only here in MO." That's why I made that earlier comment about also being in AL. :) Thanks for your comment about the runway shows. I think I sometimes do see the beauty in them, but other times I really do get lost. :)

my boyfriend is from Springfield, MO so I've been a few times - I LOVE it! One of our mutual best friends used to work there in high school and once hit a blind guy in the face with a roll...twice. The first time he just thought the guy didn't see the roll coming, so he tossed him another one...nope, the guy was blind and actually couldn't see the roll coming. So bad, but SO funny!

I went to the Lambert's in Gulf Shores, AL, and I didn't see the rolls coming. Yes, it hit me right in the eye, but it was a blast!

I have a lot of nicknames, my favorite is Megs. said...

I love Lambert's but I can't catch so I always make somebody else catch the rolls for me.

I love Lambert's! We always stop on the way to/from Six Flags-St. Louis. Definitely worth it for the sweet tea and sides! Yum! :)

Oh my gosh! I have been to Lambert's before when I was a kid visiting my grandparents in Missouri. We loved the "throwed rolls" and then use to continue it at the dinner table at home, much to my mom's display.
Love your blog!

Oh I love that place! I went to one on the way to Gulf Shores, AL. It was so much fun and the food is delicious! Luckily, we were seated in a booth against the wall so we were pretty much out of the line of fire of the hot rolls! lol
