There aren't that many fashion rules I follow. I wear white whenever I want, I mix black and brown, and I wear a scarf when everyone else is shedding layers. If I do follow rules, it's common sense rules; pay attention to fit - not size, dress for your body type, and, my favorite, dress how you feel.
I haven't always been a fan of following trends. Some of them aren't worth investing in and others are difficult to participate in without breaking the bank. But that's not true. You can wear trendy items without spending a lot of money - you just have to keep a look out for a good deal. I promise, they're out there! My rule when it comes to trends: participate, but without breaking the bank.
This is me, being a part of the Tribal Trend, and spending less than $50. I found this gorgeous Nicole Miller dress on sale for $35 and the necklace was $9 - I already had the Navajo sandals - and an outfit was born! The colors are vibrant, perfect against a tan (which I'm lacking, oops), and the pattern is eye-catching without being in-your-face (or, as I like to say, in-yo-face). Also, how gorgeous is the necklace?
Do you participate in trends? Spend a lot for trends? Do you like my tribal-trend look?
Thank you JC Penney for sponsoring this post!

I love the color of the necklace! As for trends, I always swear against them but end up getting on the band wagon late. "Skinny jeans? Won't catch me in those". Fast forward a year or two, and now I can't live w/out my jeggings. I'm really hoping that a year from now I can resist the socks with sandals/heels trend ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not too huge on trends, but they do get the best of me! Somehow. Haha, I love your coral necklace. Simply makes a statement against your tribal maxi! ;)
ReplyDeleteps- LOVE your Jack Rogers!!

Pretty sure I added you a while ago, but I haven't been doing to well on checking blogs lately. I love this tribal print maxi, am going to copy your denim shorts and white tee look immediately, and just may steal those brogues you are wearing with the J Crew top. Love!

ReplyDeleteLove the dress. I agree, participating in trends is ok just don't spend a ton on it. You did great.

ReplyDeleteooh, Linley I'm loving this gorgeous maxi dress and I SO heart that necklace, they work together beautifully. And I'm all about not breaking the bank, well said. xx veronika
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors in your outfit! They look so cute on you. I never follow rules either ;) makes outfits so much more interesting!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress and necklace! I'm with you and always willing to try the trends, but I won't overspend to do it!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in that dress! You are rockin' the tribal trend. =)
ReplyDeleteI rarely even spend lots of money on classics, much less trends. lol Diapers and formula and all that jazz just cost too much. =) But I'm the best at shopping sales, so it I find a trend and it's the right price, I'll participate.
it is hard to to participate in trends when you are seeing them everywhere and done so well - i love this dress and necklace, I think they are quite the pair!
ReplyDeletesometimes. i like building outfits using classic items and "trending it up" with accessories.
ReplyDeletesince finding kendi, and all the wonderful bloggers, like yourself, it's helped give me the confidence to use what i have and push me to create outfits that are me!
and ps. i heart jcpenney!!!
ReplyDeletei hit their clearance racks! jackpot!
I totally agree with you! And you always look fabulous regardless anyhow. I love this dress on you. I pay attention to trends, but I try not to let them rule my life too much because they come and go so quickly! Plus, it is nice to find stuff you already have to try to play with and that can be just as fun!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in the dress!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say I follow trends..I really just wear what I like and am comfortable in! If I am not comfortable in it I don't wear it!
I love this! You look great! I'm a firm believer in dressing for you and not based on trends too.

I saw that dress at JCP the other day and I love it, but it's still too small for my big pregnant belly. But it is so cute. :) You look adorable in it. And that necklace? LOVE. I want one now. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove this tribal look, though I do not have anything tribal. It generally depends if I feel that a trend defines me as a person.
ReplyDeleteloving the outfit. I'm totally with you, I think I follow trends only if it goes with my style.. some trends don't go with my body either. xo
ReplyDeleteThose are great rules to live by, whatever you feel comfy in! You look great in that maxi, loved the side fish tail braid! Tribal prints are awesome!

I love your tribal maxi with your necklace. They look perfect together.
ReplyDeleteI try not to be a slave for trends. Usually by the time I come around on a trend, it's already "out of style" lol
I love that necklace on you, Linley! That coral color is gorgeous. I'm so obsessed with coral red right now! :)

Oh man, I love that dress so much. And combined with the necklace? Forget about it. You're such a knockout.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm always on board with trends super late. Usually as they're going out. Oh well.

The colors of your maxi and necklace are vibrant and so pretty.
ReplyDeleteLoving your look! You look so fabulous in a maxi dress!
ReplyDeleteI try not to participate in trends just for the sake of being trendy. I will only indulge if I really truly love it. Even then, I try not to spend too much money on them. For example, I really liked the spring lace trend, so I got a top with lace details for $10 at the outlets. Great quality? No, but its not supposed to be.
ReplyDeleteLovely dress! ;D

ReplyDeleteLove everything about this look! I wanted that dress before and I'm heading to JCpenney after work so I'll have to see if it's on sale.
