Running

Hahaha!
{via}

In the past couple of months I've been running. If you know me, at all, you might be checking your calendar thinking it's possibly April 1st and that I'm just joking; however, that is not the case. I've actually been running for two months. The above pictures does a great job depicting the situation.

I'm running for a couple of reasons. First, it's a great way to get into shape. Running has countless health benefits - from your heart, to oxygen, to losing weight. I also work among several runners - so I was kind of forced to pick it up. I've made it a goal of mine to train for a half marathon and participate in a Rock 'n' Roll Marathon this fall. It's scary, but exciting. And although I often resemble this little girl when I run - I feel so great and accomplished afterwards.

Are any of you runners? How'd you feel starting out?

  1. i just started again last week to lose the last couple pounds of baby weight and to help with my mood/anxiety. i used to run in college but really haven't worked out since then...which is terrible! eric and my sister are training for a half marathon so they have inspired me for sure. i'm planning to do a 5k in july. one thing i've found that really helps me is to use an app (runkeeper) and also listen to a book along the way (hunger games!).

  2. Good luck with your training! I ran my first half last fall and it sounds intimidating, but you will be amazed at what your body can accomplish.

  3. That's funny- this is the second post about running I've read today! I started running a couple of years ago. My first race was an 8k. I remember saying "I'll NEVER run anything farther than this!" when I finished, but fast forward to three years later, and I'm training for my second half marathon:)

  4. Good for you sweetie! I just started running at the beginning of the year & have made it my goal to complete a race every month. I've run 6 5Ks this year so far & have one this weekend. Next month I will begin doing 10Ks & working myself up to a half marathon. Good luck to you & your running!!

  5. i LOVE this picture because i feel the same way. i started running in march. and i've done a few 5k's already. and i plan to do the new orleans jazz half in october. i'm terrified though b/c i've had some knee problems and still can't run the full 5k... but i'm determined to do the half!!!
i've never been one to push myself much physically so i feel so accomplished too!

  6. You go! I know you can do it because that was about how I felt a year and a half ago when I took up running seriously - but my goal-oriented nature kept me coming back and trying to be just a little faster and go just a little farther. And now I've just completed my second half marathon - even better, I really enjoy running now. Getting over the difficulty of the first few months in learning to string together a few miles in a row takes persistence, but it's totally doable! And now, even though it is still hard work if I push myself, I really find running fun - and almost nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment afterward. Plus other benefits: a great way to enjoy beautiful weather or explore a new area, a good opportunity to get away and just do some thinking.

  8. Sounds like me last year! All my friends were so shocked to hear when I took up running...but where I live working out is really the only thing to do...and running was the best/easy choice. I ran my first Half Marathon last year, and loved it...it was so much fun training for it. Just make sure you have good shoes!

  9. lol! the little girl picture! i like to talk about the phenomenon of what i call the "happy runner". you know those runners out there with the spring in their steps and smiles on their faces. they don't look like the breathe hard and were made to sprint. i jog outside and look like the little girl. what gives?

  10. I'd say I run, but it's more of a flailing in motion at a pace slightly quicker than the pace I keep when I walk. I hate every second of it, but I'm trying to get myself in shape, too.

  11. Used to be a runner, had to give it up for a variety of reasons.
It always sucks at first. If you can get yourself through the first three miles, then you are good to go. It's all about the mentality.
    Good luck!

  13. I'm jealous! I can't run to save my life...not because I lack the skill but because I have muscle deformations in my shins that are really painful. Running looks so healthy and brisk...I need to start doing something else aerobic instead.

  14. I'm a runner--I just completed my 5th half marathon & currently training for my first full marathon. It takes A LOT of time to get to where you want to go from a stamina perspectice, but the journey there is what makes it so fun.

Running is my therapy and I wouldn't trade it for real therapy. You'll get there--just keep at it and find ways to make it interesting!

  15. I started a few months ago and that graphic just made me laugh and say "Yipe! THat's me!"

I am starting to really enjoy it too. I try to run 3 miles every time I go for a run and most of the time I trick myself in thinking that I can't even reach a mile and then I convince myself "do another half mile" then again "you're at 1.5 mile, might aswell do 2" and then next thing you know I've done 3.5 miles!

I hope you're enjoying it too! I like to do it at the gym while watching a guilty pleasure tv show, that makes it go faster.

  16. I did not enjoy running at first. Now I really enjoy the chance to be outside. I am much less of a fan when it's really hot outside. I try to run in the early morning or later in the evening.

  17. I just started running too... and i definitely feel like I look like that little girl! I know it is an ugly thing, me running right now. I wont let my boyfriend run with me (who is already a runner and runs like 5+ miles almost daily). I'm doing interval training in an effort to work my way up to a 5k and then a 10k and maybe even a half-marathon in the future. The hardest part of it for me is the getting up and getting started. Especially with this heat that requires me to run at 6:30am! If you had told me even a year ago I would voluntarily get up at 6:30am to run I would have laughed myself to death. ha.
