Do you ever come across a song that just speaks to you in some way or another? A song that you can listen to over and over again - where the 100th time is just as amazing as the first time you heard it? I am currently in love with this song. There's so much emotion within the lyrics and their performance; their voices are amazingly haunting and they tell the story so well - it's like watching a movie. I read an interview with Joy and she described the song as "a gut-level-honest tug and pull of affection and affliction." And that's exactly what it is. Enjoy.
what an amazing video!!
ReplyDeleteEee! This makes me so happy - I got to see the Civil Wars in concert a couple months ago. So amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard this song before! Very good.
ReplyDeleteThe Civil Wars are one of my favorite bands too. I adore this song, though I've never seen the video. Thanks for posting it!
ReplyDeleteGreat song. I also like their song Barton Hollow. They have such a unique sound and the guy looks a lot like Johnny Depp
ReplyDeleteThe Civil Wars are my absolute favorite band right now! There whole album is so amazing- so raw and emotional...plus their harmonies are out of this world!

i love joy, she is an amazing singer! the civil wars whole album is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI regularly have this feeling, and have started to wonder if it's going to go away at some point. It's kind of like love- there has to be a limited amount of love you can feel for a limited number of people, right? But I keep getting gut-wrenchingly attached to song after song. And this is one of them, actually. Their voices are amazing and the soulful, aching quality of the music is perfect. That you chose this song MAY make me heart you. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, so glad you shared it! I'm at a loss for words, this song is just so eerily beautiful, it made me tear up!!

My wonderful husband E is on a mission trip with our church in Africa, and I'm here at home (ugh, gotta work) missing him. I am lying in bed right now with my ipod and my headphones in my ears listening to this song (which I discovered TODAY because of your blog, and promptly BOUGHT on iTunes because it's so great) singing at the top of my lungs (good thing E's gone, haha) and loving it, because it's just so hauntingly beautiful. Weird description, but it's true. It's hauntingly beautiful.
ReplyDeletePlease don't make fun of me for that description, haha. :)
Thanks for sharing - I need to download that stat!

The Civil Wars are currently on tour with Adele! I saw them in Boston and I think you'd love them even more in person. They've got great chemistry and Joy Williams has such a playful spirit on stage :)
ReplyDeleteI can't stop listening to the entire album!
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE the Civil Wars! And this song! I had to buy it on itunes before my summer travels... along with a few others of theirs ;)
