Recipe: Semi-Homemade

Have you every watched that show? I love Sandra Lee and all of her Semi-Homemade goodness.

Some nights I just don't feel like cooking. It may be because I'm tired or it may be because I didn't go to the grocery store. These things happen, people. On these nights, I call in chef Stouffer . And he is pretty amazing. Most nights like this we ask him to bake his Grandma's chicken and rice. While he is doing that, I also like to incorporate a side of veggies, so I'll whip up a can of green beans. However, a can of green beans isn't always appetizing. Here's how I fix that.

Need:
1 can of favorite green beans
Red pepper flakes
salt and pepper
bacon grease

Directions:
1. Pour one can of green beans into small, deep pot. Fill the empty can up half way and add that water to the pot.

2. Add desired amount of salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
{If you do not have a liking for spicy/hot flavors, don't add the red pepper flakes.}

3. Add a spoon full of bacon grease.
{Every time I fry bacon, instead of pouring out the grease, I collect it into a coffee mug and keep it in the refrigerator. It's amazing the things you can add a spoon-full of this to to add such yummy flavor (squash, cabbage, boiled potatoes - anything!)}

4. Bring contents to a boil until they reach your desired tenderness. I boil them for a while, because I like them tender.

And that is Grandma's chicken and rice right out of the oven. Y'all, this stuff is amazing. It tastes homemade and that makes me feel ok with not cooking sometimes. And the husband loves both of these.
